Calcium chloride is a chemical substance composed of chlorine and calcium, with the formula CaCl₂. It has a slightly bitter taste. As a typical ionic halide, it appears as white hard lumps or particles at room temperature. Common applications include brine for refrigeration systems, road deicing agents, and desiccants.
It can be classified into industrial grade calcium chloride and food grade calcium chloride according to application purposes. Based on different forms, it can also be divided into anhydrous calcium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate and liquid calcium chloride. Industrial calcium chloride is mainly used in oil drilling, as a desiccant, snow melting agent, dehydrating agent, refrigerant, antifreeze, early strength agent, dust suppressant, refining agent, precipitant and coagulant. It is applied in pigment and printing & dyeing production, waste paper deinking, and also serves as a raw material for manufacturing other chemical products.
Calcium chloride usually comes in white or off-white crystalline powder or granular form. The dilution ratio is 5–50% for liquid products and 2–20% for solid products. It is a typical ionic compound with strong electrolyte properties, and its aqueous solution is neutral. Calcium chloride is slightly corrosive to metals. It can react with sodium carbonate, sodium sulfate and other compounds to form corresponding precipitates.
Solid product is packed in 25kg bags, with an inner plastic film liner and an outer plastic woven bag. The product should be stored in a dry, cool and ventilated place, kept dry. Do not store it together with flammable, corrosive or toxic materials.
